About

Qingshan Liu @qingshanliu_photo is a photographer from China. His long-awaited zine “The Heat of the Body” has been released by FAR EAST DARKROOM.

His photographs portray the living conditions and psychological state of contemporary young people in China. While they embrace love, they also embody anxiety, desire, joy, arrogance, and a certain playful sense of indulgence.

The subjects he turns his lens toward carry a quality that sets them apart from others. Both their inner world and outward appearance reveal a faint, almost imperceptible “spirit of resistance,” which he understands as an inherent human desire for freedom.

For him, art is an intensely sensory experience—for both the creator and the viewer. When he shoots, he pours his deepest and most authentic emotions into the work, and at the moment he presses the shutter, those emotions are released. This act functions almost like a form of healing, offering a sense of relief to his own soul.

He believes this feeling also reaches the viewer, because we all share universal human experiences and emotions—birth, death, pain, loneliness, and joy.

In his practice, there is little to no preparation in advance. Whether in a studio, on a rooftop, by a riverside, or in a hotel room, he follows the subtle chemistry that emerges between the environment and the model, shooting intuitively. Through this process, he captures individuality, sensuality, and the unique allure of his subjects. Within these hazy, delicate emotions and fleeting moments, romance and desire quietly begin to take shape.
