About

What is the most important thing in street photography? Through this zine, SIGHTS UNSEEN, I was reminded that the key is to just keep walking.

This zine was created by Daimei Huang, a photographer from Taiwan. He moved to Japan in 2018 and started attending a photography school in Tokyo. The zine was made during his final year as a student, where he shot about 100 rolls of film in just two months, printed everything, and selected 46 images from thousands of prints.

When people think of the Tokyo street photography scene, places like Shibuya and Shinjuku often come to mind.
However, you won’t find a single photo of those bustling areas in this zine. Instead, every image is unique, showcasing scenes that only someone like Daimei, who spent countless hours walking through the city, could discover.

Here, you’ll see a side of Tokyo that’s real and authentic—scenes you won’t encounter in tourist-packed areas like Shibuya or Shinjuku.

"While organizing the photos, I realized that some of the places I had visited and photographed felt strangely unfamiliar—like scenes from a dream. These places were real, yet they gave off a surreal vibe.
I tried to make sense of this feeling and combined these seemingly unreal images into this zine."
